The National Theater of Croatia presents a new production of “Murder” by Hanoch Levin
21/2/2023
A new production of "Murder" by Hanoch Levin, directed by Ido Rosenberg, premiered last week. It opened at the National Theater of Zagreb (HNK) in Croatia.
In an interview with the Croatian newspaper, Jutarnji List, Rosenberg explained that he decided to direct the play after the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war. "I come from the Middle East, and I know what war is," he said. "Croatia also understands the meaning of war. But still, observing the war in Ukraine from afar is very disturbing. I think that everything should be done to stop this war—war is a terrible thing."
About Hanoch Levin, he said: "Levin wrote about the cruelty of life, and especially about the fact that life goes on. While one person may lose his whole world, and the ground crumbles beneath his feet, another person can live the happiest day of his life. In working on the play, I tried to find the balance among these forces."
The play premiered on February 17 and continued to be performed at the National Theatre
